Characters Hub

Happy Wheels is a single-player ragdoll vehicle game by Jim Bonacci and Fancy Force. The HTML5 browser build is free at totaljerkface.com. Steam app 4705510 is scheduled for 21 September 2026 as an ad-free Windows and Linux edition with partial controller support, English text, and a price that has not been published. Use the browser as the live client; treat the Steam build as upcoming.

This hub is the roster map for all 11 playable characters. Each character is a vehicle plus a ragdoll kit, not a fighter in a party game. Default keys are the same for everyone: Up accelerates, Down brakes or reverses, Left and Right lean, and Z ejects. Space and the Shift/Ctrl pair change meaning per kit. User levels may lock a character in the editor or leave the slot open. A run usually ends at a finish line, a token quota, or both.

If you have not learned lean yet, start with Getting Started and the controls reference before you grind featured maps.

Original four

The first four kits still cover most mixed user levels. Full specials, strengths, weaknesses, and pick rules are on Original Four Characters.

Wheelchair Guy rides a jet wheelchair. Space fires the jet. Shift and Ctrl rotate the nozzle. He is the specialist for gaps and short vertical climbs.

Segway Guy is the all-round beginner. Space jumps. Shift and Ctrl switch stand versus crouch. He is the default pick when you have not seen the map.

Irresponsible Dad is a bicycle with a child seat. Space brakes. Z ejects both riders, Shift ejects Dad, Ctrl ejects the child, and C swaps camera. Treat the seat as extra mass and a second camera, not as anything outside the game.

Effective Shopper drives a motorized shopping cart. Space jumps. She can re-grab the cart after an eject. Heavy and stable on flats, weak on thin beams.

Later roster

Seven later kits add niche tools. Details live on Later Roster Characters.

Moped Couple boosts with Space, brakes with Ctrl, ejects the passenger with Shift, and uses C for camera. Strong on boost corridors.

Lawnmower Man jumps with Space and can shred some NPCs and breakable objects. Wide body; poor on tight spike lanes.

Explorer Guy holds Space to attach to rails and leans with Shift/Ctrl. He only shines on rail maps.

Santa Claus floats with Space on a sleigh pulled by elves. Seasonal gimmick with an awkward hitbox.

Pogostick Man charges a bounce by holding Space and adjusts posture with Shift/Ctrl. High skill, excellent on vertical spike towers.

Helicopter Man uses a tiny copter plus a magnet. Space releases the magnet. Shift/Ctrl raise and lower. Unique, easy to flip.

Irresponsible Mom is a bicycle-plus-child kit with a similar eject and camera layout to Dad.

Finish lines, tokens, and locked kits

A finish line is a trigger the vehicle or ragdoll must cross. Tokens are pickups. Some maps want both. A heavy kit such as Effective Shopper stays planted on a token path. A jet or pogo can skip a broken floor to the line. The editor can lock the character, which is why a niche kit still appears in featured play. When the slot is locked, learn that one special and reset; swapping in the menu will not help.

How to choose a kit

For a community ranking aimed at general user levels, open the character tier list. For a first-hour shortlist, use Beginner Character Picks. Map shape beats roster fame. Rails favor Explorer Guy. Vertical spike towers favor Pogostick Man or Wheelchair Guy. Boost hallways favor the moped. Unknown featured maps favor Segway Guy.

Happy Wheels is a comedy physics toy. This wiki stays mechanical: specials, lean, mass, and recovery. Use this hub as a roster map, then jump to the two deep pages or the tier list before you queue another featured level.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Happy Wheels questions.

How many playable characters are in Happy Wheels?

Eleven. Four original kits and seven later kits, each with a vehicle and a unique Space or Shift/Ctrl special.

Which characters make up the original four?

Wheelchair Guy, Segway Guy, Irresponsible Dad, and Effective Shopper. They still cover most mixed user levels.

Do all levels let me pick any character?

No. The editor can lock a kit. If the slot is forced, play that special and reset; menu swapping will not change the run.

Are the default keys the same for every kit?

Yes. Up accelerates, Down brakes or reverses, Left and Right lean, and Z ejects. Space, Shift, Ctrl, and C change per character.

Should I wait for the Steam build before learning the roster?

No. Learn on the free HTML5 browser client. Steam app 4705510 is scheduled for 21 September 2026 and is not the live client yet.

Is Happy Wheels a team game?

No. It is single-player only. Each run is one kit against a user level, including kits that seat two ragdolls.
